Trump Speaks Out on FBI Raid at ‘Unpatriotic’ John Bolton’s Home: ‘I Could Be the One Starting It’
President Donald Trump claimed that he didn’t know about the raid on John Bolton’s home on Friday morning, before telling reporters he “could know about it” and “could be the one starting it.”
It was the first time Trump, speaking from the White House Experience museum in Washington and donning a red “TRUMP WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING” hat, fielded questions about the FBI operation in Bethesda, Maryland.
“He’s a … uhh … not a smart guy, but he could be a very unpatriotic guy,” Trump said. “We’re gonna find out. I know nothing about it. I just saw it this morning they did a raid.”
He added that he will likely be briefed about it “today sometime.”
“Yeah, they’ll brief me, probably today sometime. I tell Pam [Bondi] and I tell the group I don’t wanna know about this.. You have to do what you have to. I don’t want to know about it. It’s not necessary.”
While Trump claimed he didn’t know about the raid until he saw reports Friday morning, he admitted, “I could have known about it. I could be the one starting it. I’m actually the chief law enforcement officer, but I feel that it’s better this way.”
The raid, which began at about 7 a.m. Friday morning, was conducted as a “national security probe,” the New York Post reported.
Minutes later, FBI Director Kash Patel posted on X: “NO ONE is above the law… @FBI agents on mission.”
Bolton was home at the time, but not detained.
