Trump Assures Press Macron Is OK After Getting ‘Slapped’ by Wife: ‘I Don’t Know What All That Was About’

President Donald Trump reassured the country that his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, is OK on Friday after Fox News’ Peter Doocy asked the commander-in-chief to weigh in on a video of Macron being struck by his wife, Brigitte Macron.

“This week there was a video on board a plane that showed the First Lady of France slapping her husband, Emmanuel Macron. Do you have any world leader to world leader marital advice?” inquired Doocy somewhat facetiously at a press conference at which Trump bid farewell to Elon Musk.

“Make sure the door remains closed. That was not good,” joked Trump before revealing that he had spoken to Macron since and discerned that “he’s fine — they’re fine.”

“They’re two really good people, I know them very well. And I don’t know what that was all about, but I know him very well and they’re fine,” he added.

The viral clip of the door to the French president’s aircraft opening up to reveal him taking one to the face caught the attention of the world earlier this week.

Macron admitted to reporters that “My wife and I were squabbling, we were rather joking, and I was taken by surprise.” He also suggested that video had been seized on by “networks that are quite well-traceable” to “the Russians” and “extremists in France.”
