Two Men Arrested After Bomb Found Under Fox 13 News Vehicle
Two Utah men have been arrested after an explosive device was discovered under a Fox 13 vehicle on Friday in Salt Lake City.
The device, which investigators said had been lit but “failed to function as designed,” was placed beneath the vehicle, which was parked beside an occupied building.
Officials warned the placement of the bomb risked “mass casualties.”
Adeeb Nasir, 58, and Adil Justice Ahmed Nasir, 31, were arrested over the weekend and remain in custody without bail.
Court filings seen by CBS News show they could face charges ranging from attempted aggravated arson to terrorism-related offenses and possession of weapons of mass destruction.
According to the arrest report, in a home linked to the men, agents found firearms, narcotics and “two hoax weapons of mass destruction” that officials discovered were “real.” Both suspects were already barred from owning weapons due to prior drug use. The FBI is leading the investigation.
“FOX 13 News is working closely with law enforcement and our risk management team, with the safety of our employees as our top priority,” FOX 13 Station Manager Leona Wood said in a statement.
The attempted attack comes just days after conservative activist Charlie Kirk was shot dead at Utah Valley University, 40 miles south.
