USA Today Columnist Says Trump Has ‘Caught’ a Case of ‘Sleepy Joe’ Decline: ‘The Man’s Brain Has Turned to Oatmeal’

USA Today columnist Rex Huppke took aim at President Donald Trump’s “word salad” digressions at a White House press conference Monday to claim that it’s “clear” the president has “caught Sleepy Joe Biden’s much-ballyhooed cognitive decline.”

Trump held the presser to announce his federal takeover of Washington, D.C.’s policing and that he would deploy the National Guard and place the city’s police department under federal control in a bid to crack down on crime.

Throughout the presser, Trump went off-script to attack Democrats, “woke” policies and twice made a slip about Friday’s upcoming meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin – claiming he would be “in Russia” when in reality the meeting is in Alaska.

“A mistake like that from President Biden would have prompted Republicans to launch a congressional investigation into his competency and CNN’s Jake Tapper to pen a book on the presidential competency scandal of a generation,” Huppke jibed in an opinion editorial on Tuesday. “Two mistakes like that from Biden would have effectively spun the U.S. news media into a months-long cyclone of speculation and hysteria.”

“The man’s brain has turned to oatmeal,” he added.

In the scathing column, the writer argued that Trump has “caught Sleepy Joe Biden’s much-ballyhooed cognitive decline” and now “rambles incoherently” in ways that should be of “deep concern” to the public.

That rambling, Huppke argued, was on full display in Monday’s presser.

He pointed to a moment when Trump was asked if other cities might face similar National Guard deployments to the one announced for Washington, DC. His answer meandered through claims about Los Angeles “burning like the part that didn’t burn,” military interventions to “let the water come down,” and 25,000 homes lost to fire.

Huppke likened the monologue to something you’d hear before “having to make a difficult decision about grandpa’s future.”

The problem, he stressed, is that it came from the commander-in-chief.

Those who hammered Biden’s alleged cognitive decline, he wrote, should now “perk up” and face the reality of a president “going to Alaska and thinking he’s going to Russia” – a president who, in the parlance of his own past attacks per Huppke, has gone “full Sleepy Joe.”
