‘Very In-Your-Face’: Noem Reacts Live on Fox as ICE Arrests Go Down Outside Newsom Presser

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was live on Fox News Thursday as federal agents were making arrests outside a press conference with Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom while cameras rolled.

Newsom held a presser in Los Angeles on Thursday to discuss the state’s plans for gerrymandering congressional districts to maximize the benefit to Democrats, which the party is characterizing as a “response” to the alleged gerrymandering in Texas that will favor Republicans.

During Newsom’s remarks, he noted that federal border agents were outside the venue, eliciting boos from the gathered Democrats.

On Fox, Noem was speaking with anchors John Roberts and Aishah Hasnie as the split screen showed border patrol making arrests.

Hasnie pointed out what was happening and asked the Secretary for her comment, calling the situation a “very in-your-face way” to send a message to Democrats that the federal government will carry out the policies of President Donald Trump in enforcing immigration laws.

“Remember, we’re focusing on the worst of the worst,” Noem replied. “So I don’t know specific to what information that they had for that operation that they planned today, but it was based on the investigative work that all law enforcement officers do for every single operation they conduct, to make sure that they’re getting dangerous criminals off our streets.”

Newsom, in his remarks, blasted Trump and Border Patrol and mocked Trump border czar Tom Homan by sarcastically calling him a “tough guy.”

L.A. mayor Karen Bass commented to reporters on the presence of border patrol outside the venue, saying, “They decided they were going to come and thumb their nose in front of the governor’s face.”

NOEM: Not only did 1.6 million people leave the United States that shouldn’t be here, but also 2.5 million Americans became employed in the last six, seven months. That’s incredible growth for US citizens that will benefit their families and the people who love this country, who were born here, who want to be employed and now have new opportunities for success as well.

HASNIE: I want to get to some new video if we can, Secretary. This is coming from our reporters in L.A. right now, where they say that Border Patrol has arrived just outside of the downtown L.A. venue where Gov. Gavin Newsom was actually holding a press conference today. And it appears that those Border Patrol agents are making arrests, illegal immigrants and — I don’t know if they were at this press conference, if they’re in the area, but this is a very, as John put it when we first saw this video, a very in-your-face way to let, you know, Democrats know that you are going to do your job, that you’re going to carry out these Trump policies. Can you just respond to this video that we’re watching right now?

NOEM: Yeah, every single one of our ICE and Border Patrol operations is built on information, on investigative work. It’s a case and an operation that has been planned because of who they think could be in that area and what they have for information that shows that there are illegal criminals there. Remember, we’re focusing on the worst of the worst. So I don’t know specific to what information that they had for that operation that they planned today, but it was based on the investigative work that all law enforcement officers do for every single operation they conduct, to make sure that they’re getting dangerous criminals off our streets.
