WATCH: House Democrat Grills Pam Bondi About Dumping $1M+ of Trump Media Stock in Fiery Exchange

Rep. Madeleine Dean (D-PA) battled with Attorney General Pam Bondi in a tense hearing on Monday about a stock transition the congresswoman seemed to believe was fishy.

In a hearing held by the House Appropriations Committee, Rep. Dean grilled the attorney general about her seven-figure sale of Trump Media & Technology Group Corp. stock on April 2.

“Isn’t it true that on April the 2nd — the same day that [President Donald] Trump announced his chaotic tariff regime that plummeted the stock market — you sold more than $1 million worth of your shares in Trump Media stock?”

The transaction was disclosed publicly and first reported by ProPublica. That story notes that $DJT stock Bondi closed at $18.76 on the day Bondi sold it. Trump then announced his “liberation day” tariffs following the market close, and the next day, $DJT opened at $17.92.

Bondi’s disclosure form revealed that she sold between $1-5 million of $DJT. If her position was $1 million on April 2, the same amount of stock would have been worth approximately $49,000 less at market open on April 3.

Dean called out the timing of the transaction.

“Trump Media’s stock fell 13 percent in the following days,” Dean told Bondi. “Seems you avoided that loss. Well done.”

Bondi, though, claimed that she actually took a bath on the transaction.

“I complied with my ethics,” Bondi said. “And yeah, I would take a class in financial literacy if you think I profited from that — because I lost a tremendous amount of money, congresswoman.”

The attorney general was obligated, per her ethics agreement, to sell her shares in Truth Social by early May. While the stock initially dipped following the tariff announcement, it did go up days later reaching a high of $26.38 on April 23 — meaning she could have made upwards of $300,000 had she held onto her shares and sold at the peak price.
