WATCH: SNL Pillories Biden Over His Age in Rollicking Cold Open Complete With a Christopher Walken Cameo
Saturday Night Live took on 80-year-old President Joe Biden in its latest episode over concerns about his age.
In a rollicking cold open, SNL’s Mikey Day — taking over the role of the president from cast-mate James Austin Johnson — portrayed Biden as a man wanting to assuage voter concerns about his age. His idea to win over skeptics was to climb a ladder in the Oval Officer to put up Halloween decorations.
“I want to put everyone at ease,” said Day as Biden. “Nothing puts people at ease like an 80-year-old man hanging Halloween decoration.”
From there, Biden gingerly made his way up the ladder — to put it mildly. The president had to gather himself after each step, and when he got to the third, the ladder began shaking.
“That needs to go up there,” Biden said — as he tried to hang a decorative bat on a curtain. “On second thought, let’s do that later.”
Biden then carefully made his way down.
“Ladders are fun, though,” Biden said. “When I was a kid, this was cutting-edge technology. Like an iPad.”
SNL then poked fun at new House Speaker Mike Johnson.
“How did you end up as Speaker?” Biden asked.
“No one knows,” said Johnson — played by Michael Longfellow.
But Johnson too landed a shot at Biden’s age.
“I’m now second in line to replace you,” Johnson said. “So I’m excited to see more of this whole ladder thing.”
After Johnson’s drop in, Biden pivoted back to Halloween.
“It’s a confusing time,” he said. “I just wish someone could help me explain the true meaning of Halloween.
Enter Christopher Walken. Playing “the ghost of All Hallow’s past,” Walken was greeted with raucous cheers from the SNL audience.
“How did you get in here?” Biden asked. “Did you come in through the chimney?”
“Close, the toilet.” Walken said. “It’s the Halloween way.”
