‘You’re Just Using Buzzwords!’ Jessica Tarlov Smacks Down Kellyanne Conway in Epic Semantics Battle
Jessica Tarlov, The Five’s lone liberal voice, was in the midst of explaining California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s plan for redistricting that he unveiled on Thursday when Kellyanne Conway piped up, causing all hell to break loose during Thursday’s show.
Conway, a former senior counselor to Donald Trump during his first term, famously coined the buzzy term “alternative facts,” and Tarlov accused her of using “buzzwords” once again to make outrageous statements.
“They could get five Republicans out and they can also shore up four vulnerable Democrats in swing seats and make sure we got those as well,” Tarlov said of Newsom’s call for a Nov. 4 special election for a redistricting push.
That’s when Conway interrupted.
“It’s easy to get elected — I’ll clarify — it’s easy, simple, to get elected and elected and reelected as a Democrat, as a socialist—
“Gavin Newsom is a socialist?” an incredulous Tarlov asked, rolling her eyes.
“Has he condemned Mamdani?” Conway threw back, referring to Zohran Mamdani, a democratic socialist who is the Democratic nominee in the New York City mayor’s race.
Trump has gone a step further, calling Mamdani a “communist lunatic” out to “destroy New York,” and threatening to step in to stop him. Mamdani denies being a communist.
TARLOV: What?! Kellyanne, stop just like throwing whatever on the wall. You’re just using buzzwords!
CONWAY: I don’t need to use buzzwords.
TARLOV: Really? Mamdani has nothing to do with Gavin Newsom.
CONWAY: Oh? New York City has nothing to do with the governor of California? They’re the same party, as is your party. But, we’re going to do Fox News debate rules and I get 30 seconds. Here’s what I meant. It is simple, it is so simple to be elected, reelected, reelected as a Democrat in California; it’s impossible to govern as these kinds of Democrats in California, is all I mean.
