Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the “silence of America” early Sunday following one of Russia’s biggest attacks yet in Kyiv.

In a post to X on Sunday, Zelensky called out the U.S. for not speaking out against continued Russian strikes.

“The world may go on a weekend break, but the war continues, regardless of weekends and weekdays,” Zelensky wrote. “This cannot be ignored. Silence of America, silence of others around the world only encourage Putin.”

The New York Times characterized Sunday’s attack on Kyiv as one of Russia’s “largest drone and missile barrages of the war.” They reported that at least 12 people were killed and dozens more were injured as more than 370 missiles and drones were fired by the Russians.

The only way the violence ends, according to Zelensky is if “strong pressure” is applied on Russian leadership — which will, in his view, require, the “determination of the United States.”

“Without truly strong pressure on the Russian leadership, this brutality cannot be stopped,” Zelensky wrote. “Sanctions will certainly help. Determination matters now – the determination of the United States, of European countries, and of all those around the world who seek peace. The world knows all the weaknesses of the Russian economy. The war can be stopped, but only through the necessary force of pressure on Russia. Putin must be forced to think not about launching missiles, but about ending the war.”

The comments from Zelensky come days after President Donald Trump’s call with Putin — which Trump described as being “excellent” in “tone and spirit.” But critics noted that Trump seemed to cave on his demands and acceded to many of Putin’s terms.
