‘No, No, No, Don’t Say It!’ Fox News Reporter Teases John Roberts by Saying Speaker Vote Could Last Days
It’s nearly time for the House of Representatives to elect a Speaker — again! Now that Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has been ousted, House Republicans will be choosing a new leader. And some staffers at Fox News are having painful flashbacks of the extended battle that took place just this past January when it took 15 floor votes to elect McCarthy.
Fox News senior congressional correspondent Chad Pergram reported on the race for speaker and reminded America Reports host John Roberts that the last vote took a little longer than usual, and Roberts (amusingly) expressed some dread of a repeat of January:
Pergram: Now, it took five days and 15 rounds to elect Kevin McCarthy as speaker in January. The GOP believes those raucous proceedings were a bad look, so the GOP hopes to curb the bad optics by not fighting on the floor until there’s a clear winner. John?
Roberts: All right. Next Wednesday is going to be an interesting day —
Pergram: And Thursday, and Friday —
Roberts: No! Chad!
Pergram: — And maybe Saturday —
Roberts: No, no, no, don’t say it, don’t say it! Wednesday is going to be an interesting day, Chad. Let’s start there. All right. Thanks, Sandra?
Sandra Smith: And every day in between!
