Stephen A. Smith Says He ‘Might Entertain’ Presidential Run Because Dems Look ‘So Pathetic’ — Days After Poll Showing Him Just Behind Tim Walz
ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith says he might consider running for president in the future days after a poll showed him pulling in 2% — which is just behind 2024 Vice Presidential nominee Gov. Tim Walz (D), at 3%.
Smith made the comments during a Saturday episode of his podcast The Steven A. Smith Show — where he opened by stating he doubts he will ever run for president because his life is “pretty good.” However, the television anchor noted that the Democratic Party “look so pathetic” he might change his mind.
“I doubt I’ll ever run. It’s not me. I live a pretty good life, and I don’t want to ruin it by getting involved in politics. But I got to tell ya something. The Democratic Party looks so pathetic,” Smith said. “After this election, I might entertain one.”
Smith has been critical of Democratic leadership in the wake of the 2024 election and the defeat of former Vice President Kamala Harris.
“I just might change my mind one day. I doubt it, but I might. Because how much would it take to beat ya’ll. And Trump can’t run again. He’s done,” Smith added.
Earlier this week, a poll from McLaughlin & Associates, the sports commentator — who has dabbled increasingly in political commentary of late — received 2% of the vote from voters in a very early 2028 Democratic primary poll. However, Harris was the favorite with 33% followed by former Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg at 9%.
