NY Post Reporter Goes Undercover To Out Derek Jeter’s Wedding Date

Who says there’s no such thing as a little shoe-leather reporting these days? Headline-happy tabloid the New York Post is reporting today that Yankees captain Derek Jeter is set to marry his girlfriend, the actress Minka Kelly, two days after next year’s World Series on November 5th. But it wasn’t an insider tip or publicist leak that got them the story — it was good old-fashioned deception.

A Post reporter posed as “a bride-to-be seeking to book a wedding” and stole a peek at “a scheduling calendar printout” which “revealed Jeter’s name in big bold letters.” And to prove it wasn’t another Derek Jeter in the great state of New York? “When our spy asked if couples were ever open to switching dates for money, Bellando said most were so wealthy, money was not an issue.” Ha!

“I guess if it were Derek Jeter getting married, he really wouldn’t care about my money,” our reporter suggested, pointing to the entry.

Bellando chuckled, but quickly tried to dismiss speculation.

“Oh, that’s not Derek Jeter. We wouldn’t use his real name if it were. When the Jonas brother got married here last month, we used a different name.”

Good try, Mr. Bellando. But there’s no fooling the journalists at the New York Post.
