Pentagon: Defense Secretary Ash Carter Also Used Personal Email for Work
Defense Secretary Ash Carter also used a personal email for government business, even after former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton publicly came under scrutiny for her own use of private email.
The New York Times obtained emails that showed Carter using the private account, which led to an official confirmation from the White House and the Pentagon. Carter, who was sworn in this Feburary, used his private email account for at least two months after Clinton was forced to address her use of a private email server in March.
In a statement, Carter’s press secretary Peter Cook maintained that his boss had stopped using the private email account months ago. Like Clinton, Cook insists that the secretary never used the account to send or recieve classified information (an assertion that was later called into question in Clinton’s case).
