Chicago White Sox legend Frank Thomas torched his former team after he was inexplicably left out of a social media post honoring Black players.
On Sunday, February 1, the White Sox posted a pair of graphics honoring the start of Black History Month. The graphics recognized a series of “momentous firsts” for the organization. Among those firsts was outfielder Al Smith as the team’s first Black All-Star, Dick Allen as the team’s first Black MVP, and Larry Doby as the first Black manager in the team’s history.
More than a few social media users were quick to point out the fact that Thomas, arguably the greatest player in White Sox history, was suspiciously absent from the team’s Black History Month post.
Thomas was also made aware of the snub, and he didn’t mince words when he expressed his frustration online.
“I guess the Black player who made you rich over there and holds all your records is forgettable!” Thomas tweeted. “Don’t worry I’m taking receipts!”
Thomas’s relationship with the team has soured in the years since he last wore a White Sox uniform. Things began to take a turn for the worse due to Thomas’s unceremonious departure from the team in 2005. The two-time MVP took exception to the way he was treated by former general manager Ken Williams, leading to bad blood between the two. According to a column from the Chicago Tribune, Thomas claimed his relationship with the White Sox is now nonexistent.
