It Didn’t Take Long for Somebody to Make This Predictable Mistake with Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr.
A local TV station in Georgia made an incredibly unfortunate spelling error with Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr.’s name.
On Wednesday, the Falcons had a joint practice session with the Tennessee Titans. During that practice, a fight broke out and Penix was part of it. Later that evening, WTOC — a CBS affiliate based in Savannah, Georgia — covered the fight and Penix’s comments on it.
After the practice, Penix stood in front of the media and said the physical altercation boiled down to an exchange of words that quickly escalated.
“Just went a little bit too far,” the young quarterback said.
In the chyron below him, however, WTOC made the typo that every outlet has dreaded since the moment Penix was drafted. The station identified him as “Michael Penis Jr. — Falcons Quarterback.”
The misspelled name was on screen for about six seconds during the 6 o’clock hour of the evening news. Fortunately, all other airings of the segment did not include the error.
In fairness to WTOC, the typo is incredibly easy to make. With a quick glance at a standard English keyboard, one would see that the S is directly above the X. All it takes is one finger press being just millimeters off for the entire country to be talking about a minor spelling mistake.
