Jake Paul to Fight 57-Year-Old Mike Tyson in Netflix-Exclusive Match

Most Valuable Promotions
In what may be the strangest collection of words ever recorded, YouTuber Jake Paul will face boxing legend Mike Tyson — who is 57 — in a Netflix fight.
Paul (who is 27) announced Monday morning that he’ll face Tyson on July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas — home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys. It will be broadcast exclusively through the streaming service.
“The biggest fight of the 21st century, in the biggest NFL stadium in the US, broadcast live, on the biggest streaming platform in the world… That’s the MVP way,” Paul said online. “Whether you’re tuning in on Netflix or showing out in person, whether you’re team Paul or team Tyson, or whether you’re a lifelong boxing fan or watching your first fight, you’re not going to want to miss this event.
“I could not be more excited to make this amazing fight available to all Netflix subscribers alongside the hardest hitter of all time, Mike Tyson, on Saturday, July 20th. My sights are set on becoming a world champion, and now I have a chance to prove myself against the greatest heavyweight champion of the world, the baddest man on the planet and the most dangerous boxer of all time. Time to put Iron Mike to sleep.”

The fight is being organized by Paul’s own Most Valuable Promotions (MVP). According to ESPN, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation has yet to determine if the fight will be classified as a pro fight or an exhibition.
Paul’s record as a professional stands at 9-1 with six knockouts. He’s faced criticism in the past for his selection of opponents, which has largely consisted of retired fighters well past their respective primes. He also faced retired NBA player Nate Robinson in a bout that was somehow sanctioned as a pro fight in Los Angeles.
When he faced another young boxer in Tommy Fury, Paul lost in a split decision.
Though Paul continues to emphasize his desire to be world champion one day, the fight against Tyson is unlikely to assuage that criticism.
