Mike Francesa’s bold prediction on The Open Championship aged especially poorly after pro golfer Scottie Scheffler dominated the major tournament over the weekend.

The American finished the opening round of the tournament in second place after shooting 68. From there, he gradually separated himself from the pack with an impressive 64 in the second round. With scores of 67 and 68 in the third and forth rounds, respectively, Scheffler won the tournament shooting -17 for the weekend — four strokes clear of second place.

Just a day before the tournament began, however, Francesa expected things to go much differently for the top-ranked golfer on the planet. On Wednesday’s episode of The Mike Francesa Podcast, the host explained why he felt Scheffler would not win the tournament in Northern Ireland.

“Scottie Scheffler, of course, is favored,” Francesa said. “I do not think he is going to dominate yet on a links course. He has not been on a links course that many times in his life. His best finish has been eight; but I just don’t think he’s gonna win this major here. I just don’t think he is.”

“Couple of things jump out at me. Number one: I just think [Jon Rahm’s] gonna play really well. I haven’t been on Rahm all year. I haven’t been on Rahm the last two years. I just think Rahm’s gonna play really well. He’s 12 to 1, and I just got a feeling that you’re gonna get the best of Rahm this week,” he continued.

As expected, countless social media users revisited the clip after the tournament when the exact opposite happened.
