WATCH: Terrifying Moment Seattle Kraken Player and Mascot Charged by Bear During Alaskan Promo Shoot
A feel-good excursion to Alaska by Seattle Kraken’s mascot, Buoy, and forward John Hayden turned wild when a grizzly bear charged them mid-fishing session in a terrifying clip that’s gone viral.
The team was in Anchorage as part of its annual partnership with the Bristol Bay Native Corporation, which combines hockey with local community engagement. While filming what the team’s marketing department calls “experiential content” at Brooks Falls — famed for its salmon runs — when things quickly shifted from whimsical to hair-raising.
As the crew filmed, a bear approached silently from the trees, then charged through the river toward the group. Their guides sounded the alarm and the crew scrambled out of the water.
The grizzly, apparently intrigued, may have found Buoy’s sea troll getup particularly hard to ignore.
“I want to blame it on Buoy,” Hayden joked. “They were pretty interested in his whole look. We got out of it OK, but it was a close call.”
Despite the close encounter, no one was harmed.
The bear, like many Alaskans, clearly wasn’t buying the Kraken hype.
