WFAN’s Sal Licata Loses It After News of Another High-Profile Signing for LA Dodgers: ‘How Many Roster Spots Do They Have?!’

WFAN
WFAN host Sal Licata completely lost it when he found out the Los Angeles Dodgers made yet another high-profile signing this offseason.
On Tuesday, Licata was informed by his radio co-hosts that the Dodgers had recently signed pitcher Kirby Yates. The acquisition continues a trend going back to last offseason, when the Dodgers signed two-way star Shohei Ohtani and fellow Japanese star Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Roki Sasaki, another Japanese pitcher who played with both Ohtani and Yamamoto for their national team in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, also signed with the Dodgers.
Licata couldn’t believe what he heard.
“How many roster spots do they have?” Licata yelled in the studio. “Enough! My god, what is going on here? How many guys did the Dodgers get? They get Tanner Scott and Kirby Yates? Who else? Sasaki Tanner Scott weren’t enough. Now, even Kirby Yates. Like, what are we doing? I don’t understand how they’re doing it. Just every player that’s available, that’s decent, is going to the Dodgers?”
Then, Licata was told by his co-hosts that sportsbooks project the team to win at least 115 games — just a single win away from the 2001 Seattle Mariners’ record of 116. Licata defiantly proclaimed he’d bet on them to win less than that projection despite all of the team’s talent.
“I’m betting the under,” he continued. “On principle, I’m betting the under! I’m betting the pants on the under. Hundred-fifteen wins. No. Something will go wrong! I just don’t believe that you could build a team like that and have success!”
