Israel’s President Tells Musk He Has a ‘Huge Role to Play’ in Fighting Anti-Semitism After Billionaire Endorsed Anti-Semitic Post
Elon Musk was warmly welcomed by Israeli leaders less than two weeks after he endorsed a blatantly anti-Semitic tweet.
Musk responded, “You have said the actual truth” in response to a tweet claiming that Jews are responsible for “hatred against Whites” and want Whites replaced by “hordes of minorities.”
Since acquiring Twitter/X last year, Musk has allowed White nationalist and neo-Nazi content to proliferate on the platform. In several cases, he has engaged with the purveyors of such material on friendly terms.
The billionaire owner of Twitter/X and Tesla later tried to backpedal without retracting his endorsement of the anti-Semitic conspiracy theory by making clear he is against “Jewish genocide.”
Opposing the mass killing of Jews while also subscribing to some anti-Semitic ideas was apparently enough for Israel’s top brass to welcome Musk with open arms on Monday. He held a Twitter/X Spaces event with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“Those who are intent on murder must be neutralized,” Musk said, referring to Hamas, which carried out the Oct. 7 terror attacks in Israel that killed 1,200 people. “The propaganda must stop. And then, making Gaza prosperous. And if that happens, I think, will be a good future.”
“Well, I hope you’ll be involved in it,” Netanyahu declared.
“I’d love to help,” Musk replied.
Musk also met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog.
“Welcome to Israel, Mr. Musk,” he said. “Your visit means a lot to us.” Herzog went on to say Musk has a role to play in combatting anti-Semitism on the very platform Musk has allowed it to spread – sometimes with his stamp of approval.
“You have a huge role to play, and I think we need to fight it together because under the platform which you lead, unfortunately, there’s a harboring of a lot of old hate, which is Jew hate, which is anti-Semitism,” Herzog said.
Musk responded by calling the very kind of content he endorsed less than two weeks ago “propaganda.”
“We have to do whatever’s necessary to, uh, stop the– I mean, essentially these people have been fed propaganda since they were children.”
The billionaire’s visit was not without its critics. The editor-in-chief of Haaretz’s English edition accused Israel’s leaders of “amoral sycophancy.”
