12,000 + Respond to Mediaite Brian Williams Poll, Over 70% Think He Should Be Fired
After well over 12,000 votes, the initial results are in. More than 70% of Mediaite readers who took our poll think NBC should fire Nightly News anchor Brian Williams for repeatedly exaggerating a story about his 2003 experience in Iraq. Interestingly the numbers have remained steady at between about 65 and 70 percent throughout the 24 hours the poll has been up (it’s also worth noting that each reader could only vote once).
It has been less than two days since the NBC newsman first recanted his story about a helicopter he and his crew were riding in over Iraq being shot down by an RPG. It was another helicopter nearby that was hit with an RPG and Williams claimed he “conflated” the two events.
Since Williams’ on-air apology, one helicopter pilot, Rich Krell, who claimed to have been flying the chopper Williams was in said that they did “take fire” that day, if not from an RPG. But now he is changing his story. Later, the pilot in command Chris Simeone wrote a piece for The New York Post disputing Krell’s account.
So far, reports indicate that NBC News has no plans to punish Williams, let alone fire him.
