A.B. Stoddard Rips Trump Over Shutdown: ‘Useless, Juvenile, Irresponsible Exercise’
RealClearPolitics associate editor A.B. Stoddard ripped President Donald Trump over the current government shutdown, calling it a “useless” exercise Republicans are unlikely to win.
Appearing on MSNBC Monday, Stoddard agreed with the assessment of Republican Senator Bob Corker, who said the shutdown showdown is “a spectacle” and “juvenile.”
“The president wanted a shutdown,” Stoddard said. “His supporters have told him to shut the government down. Even allies of the president will tell you he wants to be seen as fighting.”
“How it ends, however, is very murky,” she continued. “Because he doesn’t seem to understand the political peril an extended shutdown will bring him.”
“This is a useless, juvenile, irresponsible exercise,” Stoddard said. “The idea that the Democrats are going to budge if they’re going to take control January 3rd is laughable.”
