‘Absolute Mess!’ Joe Scarborough Rants at ‘Dangerous’ D.C. But Pans Trump Federal Takeover Idea

Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough unleashed on the nation’s capital, Washington D.C., as an “absolute mess” and “dangerous” while agreeing that President Donald Trump’s involvement should be “encouraged” but panned the president’s proposal of a federal takeover of the city.

Trump floated the idea on Truth Social that unless the city gets “its act together,” he will “have no choice but to take Federal control” after a violent carjacking that left former DOGE employee Edward “Big Balls” Coristine beaten and robbed.

D.C. police say two 15-year olds from Maryland had been arrested in connection with the attack and were part of a group of about 10 individuals involved, according to The Washington Post. Both have been charged with unarmed carjacking.

Scarborough pushed back on Trump’s idea on Friday’s Morning Joe but opened up into a tirade on how “terrible” the “quality of life” has been in the city for a long time:

Yeah, I mean, we don’t want a federal takeover of the capitol. Certainly don’t need the National Guard in there, or certainly not Marines. But you look at Washington, D.C, and it’s been dangerous for years. There have been, you know, a year, a couple of years here, a couple of years there where it’s been a bit better, but certainly over the past five years it has just been an absolute mess. Its quality of life has been terrible.

We’ve heard it from people that have gone there to visit and are horrified that the nation’s capital is as dangerous as it is. We’ve heard it from students, we’ve heard it from business people, we’ve heard it from people that work on the Hill. I’ve 25-30 years of friends asking, “really this is how the nation’s capital runs?”

Suggesting an alternative path for the administration, Scarborough said that “anything” Trump can do “to forge a partnership with the city” should be “encouraged” but rounded, explicitly, on D.C. officials to add: “It’s leaders seem unwilling to do what is required to keep city streets safe.”

The host continued:

Again, they don’t have to federalize it. But just help the city help themselves. If city council members continue to do things that undermine the security of, of the streets and of the communities and the places, not only where tourists go, where people have to go to work day in and day out, then yeah, we need the federal government to be far more involved in the nation’s capital.

This is not Nebraska. This is the nation’s capital. It should be safe for Americans and tourists from around the world to visit.
