Alec Baldwin Finally Gets to Be Mayor of NYC
Alec Baldwin has not-so-secretly wanted to be Mayor of New York City for a while, and, thanks to the magic of television, that dream has come true: the actor and former MSNBC host will star in an untitled HBO TV drama in which he gets to be Hizzoner.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Baldwin is set to play “a billionaire real estate developer, divorced father, philanthropist, society fixture and celebrated libertine who unexpectedly becomes mayor of New York City.” (To get a good idea of who this character will be, imagine Baldwin with Bloomberg money. Yep. Exactly.) HBO won the series after a “heated bidding war” and has committed to producing the series, with Baldwin as its executive producer should it go forward.
This is probably the show Baldwin and NBC were developing back in July of 2014, wherein he would portray a Rob Ford-style mayor. Earlier reports indicated that the team was planning to make it a cable drama, ” which would be necessary to capture some of the more NSFW moments from [Ford’s] illustrious career.”
So wait: Baldwin with Bloomberg money, Rob Ford’s crack, and HBO’s gratuitous breasts!? This sounds like a winner already.
Back in 2011, Baldwin was allegedly thinking about running for Mayor after then-Congressman Anthony Weiner‘s sexting scandal appeared to have killed his chances.
