Alex Wagner: ‘It Appears’ That Mueller ‘Has a Case To Be Made’ For Both Obstruction of Justice and Collusion

CBS News correspondent Alex Wagner offered up what she admitted was “baseless speculation” regarding the findings of Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

When asked what happens if Democrats take back the House in the upcoming midterms, Wagner responded by saying they’ll first have to “grapple with the I-word.” Aka impeachment.

“I think numerically and politically, it might not be that wise to be talking about impeachment,” Wagner told Stephen Colbert. “But nonetheless, the conversation nationally is what it is and Robert Mueller will at some point wrap up his investigation and from there, Democrats are gonna have to figure out a path forward.”

Colbert expressed his disapproval of Democrats who want to pursue the impeachment of President Donald Trump, arguing that he should be taken out with elections. The Circus co-host John Heilemann pushed back, insisting that Colbert would feel differently if Mueller released a 9/11 Commission-sized findings from his investigation that implicate the president.

The Late Show host then pressed Wagner and Heilemann about whether they’ve heard any “rumors” about the outcome of Mueller probe and the potential crimes he may accuse Trump of.

“In the interest of completely baseless speculation… it appears he has a case to be made for obstruction of justice and it appears that he has a case to be made for collusion,” Wagner said. “But nobody can know because the beauty of Robert Mueller is that he has managed to be a lockbox in the leakiest, craziest, talkiest moment in American politics.”
