WATCH: Alice Marie Johnson Released from Prison After Trump Commutes Her Sentence
The woman who Kim Kardashian lobbied President Donald Trump on behalf of during a White House meeting has been released from federal prison.
Alice Marie Johnson, who already served 21 years of a life sentence for conspiracy to possess cocaine and attempted possession of cocaine, had her sentence commuted earlier today.
“Ms. Johnson has accepted responsibility for her past behavior and has been a model prisoner over the past two decades. Despite receiving a life sentence, Alice worked hard to rehabilitate herself in prison, and act as a mentor to her fellow inmates,” the White House said in a statement Wednesday afternoon.
Kardashian celebrated the news on Twitter.
She also spoke to Johnson.
It was unclear at the time of the earlier statement when her release would be.
However, her freedom came just hours later.
“I’m just so thankful. I feel like my life is starting over again,” Johnson told the press after being released.
