Amazing Race Canada Will Feature Its First Transgender Contestant This Season
When Canada’s version of The Amazing Race begins airing on CTV on July 8, it will be marking a major milestone in the series when it welcomes its first transgender contestant. Hamilton Elliott, 19, who was born female and began transitioning at age 15, will compete alongside his fiance Michaelia Drever on the acclaimed globe-trotting series. It’s a sign that the wave of transgender acceptance reaches internationally and Elliott is excited to be a part of it.
He said in a statement:
“I want Canadians to know that the search for one’s true gender identity is challenging, but ultimately rewarding.”
Elliott and Drever, who currently live in Nova Scotia, are both Canadian military cadets.
Teams on The Amazing Race compete for about $1 million worth of prizes while traveling the country. Not a bad way to spread awareness!
