AP Reporter Asks Obama: Did Voters Reject Your Agenda Last Night?
President Obama famously said during the midterms that he isn’t on the ballot, but his policies are. And to kick off the round of questions at his press conference today, AP reporter Julie Pace asked him if he felt last night’s “devastating” Democratic defeat was a clear repudiation of his administration’s policies.
“Do you feel any responsibility to recalibrate your agenda for the next two years?” she asked. “And what changes do you need to make in your White House and in your dealings with Republicans in order to address the concerns voters expressed with your administration?”
The president seemed to reject the premise of her question and argued that the real message of the election was the votes expressing their frustration with Washington not getting things done. Obama spoke of finding compromise with Republicans while staying firm to the policies he’s been pushing for the past few years.
