Bill Kristol Fantasizes About Meeting Nikki Haley in a ‘Secret Place’ to Discuss a Run Against Trump in 2020

Prominent NeverTrumper Bill Kristol is continuing his quest to find a Republican to challenge President Donald Trump in a 2020 primary.

The editor at large of The Weekly Standard began by weighing in on the reported “exodus” of administration officials who may be on their way out after the 2018 midterms like Chief of Staff Gen. John Kelly, Attorney General Jeff Sessions, and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. But perhaps his greatest interest is in outgoing U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley, who will officially depart from her role at the end of the year, as a potential challenger to the president.

“Do you think a part of Nikki Haley would be receptive in meeting with Bill Kristol and hearing you out?” MSNBC anchor Brian Williams asked.

“I think she’d be happy to have lunch, but maybe just coffee, not a full lunch, you know, in a very secret place, in a very dark basement somewhere in New York,” Kristol responded.” “I think people will look and have to raise the question, ‘Do they want to renominate Donald Trump in 2020?’ We’ll see what happens over the next year. But I personally would try to lay the groundwork for a primary challenge. I don’t know if Nikki Haley or one else will pick it up. It’s been done before. And as I’ve said, Tuesday will be an important moment where people start looking forward and asking ‘Do we want an additional four years of Donald Trump defining the Republican Party?'”

On the day she announced her resignation from the administration, Haley expressed her full intention to support Trump in 2020.
