Bill Maher: Bar Is So Low We’re Cheering Republicans for Opposing White Supremacy

HBO Real Time host Bill Maher appeared on MSNBC to scorch Republicans after they finally condemned Rep. Steve King (R-IA) for his racist comments, joking that the “bar” is so low now for GOP lawmakers that they’re being cheered on for condemning racism.

Maher, who appeared on Hardball with Chris Matthews tonight, made the comments after the House passed a resolution approved by every Republican lawmaker to condemn white supremacy in light of King’s defense of the ideology to the New York Times.

“Look where the bar is, that we’re cheering the Republicans because they say they don’t believe in white supremacy. This is how far down we’ve gone,” Maher said. “This is where they draw the line. I’m glad they drew the line somewhere because I was beginning to wonder if they would ever draw a line. But again the question we always have to ask is what will the Republicans put up with?”

Maher also condemned Trump and his supporters during the hit, arguing that Americans are either against the president or they are “pro dangerous menace.”

“Obviously most of the country thinks that Donald Trump is a dangerous menace. So you’re either on that page or you are pro-dangerous menace. And if the Republicans are going to go down this road where they are going to defend him, even when he is taking down the FBI, the Justice Department, those institutions, those pillars of our society, then the I don’t know where we’re going to go. We’re going to go someplace that isn’t America anymore.”
