Bill Maher Bashes Ted Cruz, Compares Him to Twerking Miley Cyrus

Bill Maher took on the Ted Cruz (technically not a) filibuster on Friday night, comparing the anti-Obamacare Texas senator to… Miley Cyrus. It sounds odd, but Maher said Cruz “is not afraid to incur the wrath of even his fans” just for the attention. But even though he joked that “a filibuster is the political version of twerking,” Maher actually thought Cruz, like Cyrus, would end up looking good in all this.

Robert Reich thought it was refreshing to see someone in Washington standing up for their convictions, but “the problem was his conviction was ludicrous.” Reason‘s Matt Welch liked Cruz’s stunt to “a hit off a crack pipe,” noting how unlike Rand Paul‘s drone filibuster, Cruz wasn’t able to win over anyone who didn’t already agree with him.

Welch said if Republicans want to broaden the tent, they have to start going after issues like drones that Democrats haven’t been very good at, and that they can attract a lot of support on the left for.
