Bloomberg May Not Renew Halperin and Heilemann’s Contracts

withallduerespect_studioThe hosts of Bloomberg Politics’ With All Due Respect may see themselves out of a job after the 2016 election.

New York Magazine‘s Gabriel Sherman reports on the upcoming change, which comes as owner Michael Bloomberg has exerted more control over his media properties. According to Sherman, the businessman and former New York mayor seeks to return Bloomberg to its business roots, and shy away from competing with outlets like Politico and The New York Times.

Unfortunately, that wouldn’t leave a lot of room for political stars and Game Change coauthors Mark Halperin and John Heilemann. Sherman writes that according to an adviser, Bloomberg has said he doesn’t want to renew Heilemann and Halperin’s contract once they end after the 2016 election.

“Some days he thinks what they do is good and other days isn’t,” the advisor said. “But ultimately it doesn’t fit the mission of what he wants to do with the television network.”

UPDATE (1:56 PM ET): Michael Bloomberg has issued a statement to Mediaite denying the gist of Sherman’s reporting:

“I’ve become a devotee of Bloomberg Politics. It’s an important part of our TV line-up and our strategy, giving our customers the news and people they need going into election season. I fully support it.”
