North Korea Tests Ballistic Missile
A day after President Donald Trump said that there’s a chance of a “major, major conflict” with North Korea, the South Korean military is reporting that the North Koreans have conducted a ballistic missile test. According to reports, the missile exploded shortly after launching.
As noted by MSNBC’s Jeremy Bash, the test doesn’t appear to be a nuclear test, which North Korea has done five times before. Also, the test doesn’t appear to be of an intercontinental ballistic missile. Likely, the test is of a short-range or intermediate-range missile.
This week, all 100 members of the US Senate were brought to the White House to attend a security briefing on North Korea. Senators afterward said little was learned from the meeting.
Earlier today, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson called on the international community to increase pressure on North Korea and that America was willing to take military action against the nation if necessary.
UPDATE 7:27 PM ET: The president took to Twitter to weigh in on the missile test:
North Korea disrespected the wishes of China & its highly respected President when it launched, though unsuccessfully, a missile today. Bad!
