Bret Baier on Comey Not Knowing Who Funded Trump Dossier: ‘I Dont Understand How That’s Possible’
After his interview with former FBI Director James Comey, Fox News anchor Bret Baier sat down with Shannon Bream to discuss his biggest takeaways.
Baier began by reflecting on a heated exchange he had with Comey about the origin of the Trump dossier that was used to obtain a FISA warrant.
“I think what most struck me was the fact that he said that as of tonight, he still can’t say that definitively, the Steele dossier was funded by the DNC and Hillary Clinton,” Baier told Bream. “I don’t understand how that’s possible. “If you are the head of this investigation for weeks, you’re relying- and he says it was a smaller part than we are hearing on Capitol Hill on the FISA application that the dossier was, but you’re relying on- you personally called ‘unverified and salacious’ document. And you don’t know who funded it but- and you don’t ask or find out? It doesn’t seem to add up.”
The Special Report host expressed how puzzled he was regarding Comey’s response to the texts that have been released from FBI agent Peter Strzok and Lisa Page showing anti-Trump bias.
“It’s tough to look at them and not see the inherent animus towards President Trump,” Baier said.
When asked what question he would have asked Comey if given more time, Baier responded by wanting clarification as to why Comey felt the need to spark a special counsel in the Russia investigation when he leaked his memos after being fired but didn’t feel the need to request a special counsel for the Clinton email investigation.
