Bret Michaels Becomes Collateral Damage In Lawrence O’Donnell’s War On Trump
If one needs any further proof of just how much Donald Trump gets under Lawrence O’Donnell‘s skin, look no further than a segment where O’Donnell praises Karl Rove and Michele Bachmann, and claims he has no idea who Bret Michaels is. O’Donnell delivered his latest anti-Trump screed tonight in response to news that Jerry Seinfeld refuses to do charity events with Trump, and encouraged all “decent” people to do the same.
O’Donnell began his increasingly regular Trump/birther segment today not with the news that Seinfeld would stand with the President and decline invitations to charity events for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital if run by Trump, but with the Republicans that no longer stand with the birthers. He begins half-heartedly praising “my pal” Karl Rove for telling Trump to knock it off, then showing a clip of Rep. Bachmann telling birthers to “move on” in light of conclusive proof of the existence of President Obama’s birth certificate.
“We know [Trump] has seen how Michele Bachmann handled the birth certificate question. He knows that’s an option,” O’Donnell notes, but finds that Trump “refuses to do it and instead actively chooses to continue to fan the flames of hatred of Barack Obama.” He concludes with dramatic flair that Trump is now “the racists’ greatest hero,” if not a racist himself, because he is “giving a public voice to the most polite things that those people think about our first African American president,” and giving them a reason to hope that “he is every bit as racist as they are.”
Most of this, of course, is par for the course in O’Donnell’s relentless crusade to take Trump down. So is his concluding remarks noting that he is currently “in the very same building” where “NBC programming executives have been quietly planning their continued association with Donald Trump by ordering another season of his show,” an association that appears to personally shame O’Donnell, as he notes “any public association with Trump is now an association which no decent person can bear.” But among those in the “indecent” category is a bit of an unexpected new enemy: Bret Michaels.
Michaels, of course, has accepted to step in for Seinfeld and declared in a statement today that he found Seinfeld’s injecting of politics into the charity event unsavory. Apparently he wasn’t convincing enough, or O’Donnell was simply not aware of the statement, given that he didn’t even seem to know who he is. “Someone named Bret Michaels will substitute for Jerry Seinfeld,” O’Donnell reported. “I, for one, have no idea who Bret Michaels is, what he does for a living, or what he has done in the past, but I know that Bret Michaels has never served as a substitute to Jerry Seinfeld.” Among all the crazy things that Bret Michaels has experienced, and all the enemies he has accumulated in his crazy past, being a major political target for Lawrence O’Donnell has to be among one of the most bizarre.
