Brian Williams Stumbles to Explain Himself to Matt Lauer: ‘It Came From a Bad Place’
Brian Williams sat down with Matt Lauer on The TODAY Show to discuss his being suspended from NBC Nightly News.
Lauer prefaced the interview saying, “We both agreed there would be no conditions or guidelines placed on this interview.” Despite this, whenever the morning host asked Williams repeatedly about whether or not he knowingly lied about his infamous helicopter story, the forming news anchor kept giving non-answers. Our favorites include:
- “I told the story correctly for years, before I told it incorrectly.”
- “I was not trying to mislead people.”
- “No. It came from a bad place. It came from a sloppy choice of words.”
- “This came from clearly a bad place, a bad urge inside me.”
