‘Burning Hatred’: CNN’s Scott Jennings Gets NY Democrat to Admit He’s Being Targeted Because He Supports Israel
CNN’s Scott Jennings got Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY) to admit that he’s being targeted by his fellow Democrats as a result of his support for Israel on CNN NewsNight Wednesday.
The conversation in question began with host Abby Phillip noting that some of New York City mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani’s allies are plotting to mount primary challenges to some members of New York’s Democratic delegation, including Torres, before asking Torres himself for his reaction.
“I think it’s fair to say that my colleagues in the New York congressional delegation and I, we do not care about the Democratic Socialists of America. We’re focused on defeating congressional Republicans in the midterm, and making Hakeem Jeffries the Speaker of the House, and reversing the catastrophic consequences of the Republican reconciliation bill. We could care less about Mickey Mouse’s primary challenges,” replied Torres, before suggesting that the lesson of Mamdani’s victory in the Big Apple’s Democratic primary is that “there is no Democratic establishment.”
“Are you being honest when you say you don’t know why they’re targeting you?” jumped in Jennings. “You know why they’re targeting you.”
“I know why they’re targeting me, but I don’t care that they’re targeting me,” answered Torres.
“Well, so why don’t you say it? You know why they’re targeting you,” said Jennings.
“I think they’re targeting me because I’m pro-Israel. Yeah, that’s the issue,” acknowledged the congressman.
“That’s 100% right,” agreed Jennings, who went on to praise Torres.
“And by the way, he’s been courageous on this issue, and he’s had a backbone, and he has stood up to the wacko radicals and his party on this and he deserves all the credit in the world for it,” argued the conservative commentator. “But that’s why he’s on the list, because these people have a burning hatred for Israel. It’s one of their main pieces of their platform, and that’s what they put him on the list, and it’s terrible.”
