Cartman Turns Yelp Into ISIS-Like Organization on South Park
Never one to stay out of a current event for too long, South Park tackled two of the United States’ greatest threats at once on Wednesday night: ISIS and Yelp.
How’d the Comedy Central show go about offending #ProudAmericans, Muslims and Millennial food critics simultaneously? By elevating Cartman to the status of the foodie app’s “caliphate” of sorts, then encouraging the masses in a fanatical, if not pseudo-religious manner against local eateries deemed unworthy. There’s even a beheading video shown by the local news akin to CNN’s routine treatment of the subject.
On the one hand, the comparison between ISIS and Yelp is exaggerated. Egregious even. As far as I could determine, there’s no recorded instance of a Yelp reviewer (or reviewers) acting out against a restaurant via the means popularized by the Islamic State.
On the other hand, if you’ve ever read Yelp reviews, then you know that milder aggression isn’t above and beyond the ways of Yelpers.
