Cenk Uygur: Fox News ‘Wants to Recreate 1955… Literally’

Last week, PolitiFact spinoff PunditFact actually fact-checked the claim that all of Fox News’ female anchors are white and blonde. Through their rigorous research, PunditFact determined that there are a total of 12 full-time non-blonde hosts on Fox compared to 14 blonde ones. On his Young Turks web show last night, Cenk Uygur tried to figure out how Fox ended up with so many blondes.
“My sense of it is that Fox News wants to recreate 1955, because that’s when most of their audience grew up. Literally,” Uygur said. “The average age of their audience is in their 70s, right? …So, in the Leave it to Beaver days, and when you think of 1955, you think of a blonde girl in a skirt, and Happy Days, and all that stuff. So, that’s what they’ve recreated.”
He said this mentality extended to the male hosts Fox has employed over the years as well, including the infamous pairing of Hannity and Colmes. While Sean Hannity is “stout young American” with a “nice block head” while Alan Colmes has “glasses” and is a “bit cross-eyed.” Basically, he said, the conservatives are “archetypes” and the liberals are “mutants.”
