‘Chaos and Carnage!’: CNN Airs Graphic Footage of Kabul Bombing Aftermath After First Blurring

CNN aired gruesome footage from Kabul on Thursday to show the aftermath of the explosion that left numerous Americans and Afghan refugees dead near Hamid Karzai International Airport.

The explosion has been described as a “complex attack” that took place around Abbey Gate as crowds were lined up, attempting to flee the country. Another explosion took place nearby at the Baron Hotel.

CNN Newsroom aired footage of the aftermath, showing a horrific number of corpses and people at the scene with bloody injuries. Many of the bodies were seen lying in a sewage drainage canal that runs between Abbey Gate and the Baron Hotel.

“It’s just chaos and carnage there,” said Alisyn Camerota. “You see rows of bodies, you see some of them bloody. Some appear lifeless.”

CNN’s decision to air the unfiltered version of the clip comes hours after they repeatedly aired it, but made a point of telling viewers they were keeping the graphic images blurred out.

The situation continues to unfold, and even though the U.S. has confirmed a number of American casualties, it remains unclear precisely how many people have been killed or injured
