Chris Cuomo Rips Trump, Kanye, and the Media: ‘Why Fan the Flames of the Foolish?’

CNN’s Chris Cuomo denounced Donald Trump, Kanye West, and the media on Thursday over what he called a three-way “traveshamockery” that took place yesterday in the Oval Office.

Cuomo used his closing argument to condemn the summit between the president and the rapper over the fact that the whole thing was a gigantic spectacle the media and Trump recklessly indulged. Cuomo made this point while saying that West doesn’t appear to be mentally sound by his own admission, even if he did manage to stroke the president’s ego and raise some interesting points politically.

“Why give it all this hype? Why fan the flames of the foolish? It’s not okay for two big reasons. First: how is it okay to put Kanye on display like this? He’s no elected or appointed or recognized leader of any community on this planet. Is he popular? Yes, for his music, not his politics. His personal history reads more as a rationale for keeping him from something like this, than indulging him…Multiple reports, his own statements, it all makes clear that he has struggled and admitted diagnoses for personal mental health issues. While he raised legit issues of jobs and inner city concerns, when you hear the disassociative ramblings of a man one prized for his intellect and education, there’s something wrong there.”

Eventually, Cuomo brought up West comparing his MAGA hat to a Superman cape, which the CNN host juxtaposed with the fact that the president spent much of his day doing interviews and ceremonial events instead of addressing the devastation from Hurricane Michael.

“Do you remember the episode of Superman where he does BS kiss up session with Lex Luthor instead of saving people in trouble? Me neither,” Cuomo said. “I’m fine with the president getting praise when deserved. This is not that. This is manufactured, it’s media motivated, it’s a traveshamockery, and the timing alone tells the story of truly messed up priorities. The president does not need fake praise while we have real problems.”
