Cuomo: Trump Tweet on Shooting ‘Expresses So Much About How Stupid the Situation Is’
CNN’s Chris Cuomo was definitely not impressed with President Trump’s first tweet today about the school shooting in Florida that left 17 dead and others wounded.
The president got on Twitter today to say that the shooter was “mentally disturbed” and the answer to violence prevention is “must always report such instances to authorities.”
So many signs that the Florida shooter was mentally disturbed, even expelled from school for bad and erratic behavior. Neighbors and classmates knew he was a big problem. Must always report such instances to authorities, again and again!

As Cuomo went through the different parts of Trump’s tweet he remarked “I think it’s important that you hear it because it expresses so much about how stupid the situation is.” As he spoke to New York Times‘ Maggie Habberman, Cuomo said that either Trump doesn’t get how law enforcement works, or he’s trying to put the blame on somebody.
“That’s a dumb thing he just put out,” Cuomo said. “While all of those things are true, none of them – you can call the police all you want, you’re not taking this young man’s gun away from him.”
Haberman noted that lots of people were aware of the shooter’s troubled life and social media presence, and she and Cuomo agreed that theres a high bar for isolating potential shooters away from the public. Cuomo also noted that Trump decided not to say anything about how the shooter apparently bought his guns legally.
“Obviously he doesn’t have the resolve to do anything about this,” Cuomo said. “After Vegas he said we’ll be talking about gun laws as time goes on. He hasn’t said a word.”
