Chris Hayes Slams ‘Supposed Newsman’ Bret Baier Over ‘Obsequious Questions’ During Trump Town Hall
MSNBC host Chris Hayes mocked Fox News host Bret Baier over his job as co-moderator of a town hall featuring former President Donald Trump.
Fox News hosted an hourlong town hall with Trump in Iowa as his Republican presidential opponents Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley participated in a CNN debate down the road. Trump, who took questions from audience members, Baier and Martha MacCallum, had requested his event coincide with the debate, which the town hall trounced in the ratings.
Trump’s appearance on the network came a day after a lawyer argued that the former president is immune from criminal prosecution unless he is impeached and convicted by Congress – even if the president were to use the armed forces to murder political rivals.
“There is – it seems to me – one question, at least one obvious question to ask a man running for president a day after his lawyers have argued he should be allowed to murder political opponents with essentially full criminal immunity,” Hayes said on Thursday’s All In. “Last night, the hosts of Fox News – in what amounted to a televised campaign event for that candidate – did not ask that obvious question: Do you really believe you should be able to kill political opponents and not be charged for it?”
Hayes turned his attention to Baier and questioned his journalistic bona fides.
“Bret Baier, the network’s supposed newsman, whose election night 2020 text messages showed him trying to get his network to change their correct call that Trump lost Arizona, along with Martha MacCallum, instead conducted a town hall so full of obsequious questions that even Ron DeSantis… was clearly unhappy about the campaign rally in everything but name.”
The host aired a clip of DeSantis telling an Iowa radio host that Trump “got a lot of softball questions.”
