Chris Matthews: Clinton Hasn’t Made Any Mistakes ‘That Will Matter 2 Weeks From Now’
Hardball host Chris Matthews agreed with the Morning Joe diagnosis of Hillary Clinton’s demeanor in the early campaign days as stiff, but predicted the things everybody was talking about right now (rhymes with Hip Coldplay) would dissipate as she grew more confident on the trail.
“Hillary Clinton has to get back in the game,” Matthews said. “It’s taken a while. It’s a very slow start. But no mistakes yet that matter two weeks from now. No harm’s been done.”
Cohost Mika Brzezinski said they’d seen Clinton’s more relatable side before, but that it seemed to have disappeared behind a wall.
“I’ve seen the Hillary everybody likes who knows her, which is, and don’t take this the wrong way: girlish, fun, upbeat, exuberant, totally unafraid of commentary,” Matthews said. “Then there is the one in public who is aware her worst enemies are watching her, ready to get a jump on her…Maybe it’s years of being hit.”
