Chris Matthews Congratulates Media Matters On A ‘Successful Campaign’ To Remove Glenn Beck From Fox
On the day when Glenn Beck and Fox News officially announced a “transition” from their current relationship, Chris Matthews welcomed Media Matters founder David Brock to Hardball in order to congratulate him for his “successful campaign” to remove Beck. Brock smiled, saying Beck’s reputation forced “even Fox” to draw a line and that today was a “victory for civil discourse.”
Matthews, likely pleased that his time slot rival would soon be gone, asked Brock what led to the parting of ways between Beck and Fox? Brock explained that it was a result of the content of Beck’s show, which he said was filled with race-baiting and apocalyptic rhetoric. Also Brock claimed Beck lost more than 300 major advertisers and attempted to incite violence against progressives. Matthews summarized Beck’s commentary as “precious bodily fluids” and as “insane talk.”
Yet Matthews was careful to make clear that his opinion about Beck is very different from Fox’s other hosts. Matthews concluded about Beck, “O’Reilly has a legitimate point of view, and so does Sean [Hannity] – this isn’t a point of view, this is crazy.”
