Chris Matthews: What Is The Source Of Michele Bachmann’s Hypnotic Trances?

Republican Congresswoman Michele Bachmann appeared on Meet the Press Sunday and, as a montage on Hardball revealed, basically ignored most questions posed to her and discussed her preferred issues. Chris Matthews was amazed by Bachmann’s continued ability to be in a “hypnotic trance” during her interviews and wondered who she was appealing to by calling the Obama administration a “gangster government?”

Guests Democratic Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez and The Washington Post‘s Jonathan Capehart weighed in, with Sanchez claiming Bachmann’s statements about President Obama are “sad” and “wrong” and alleging that Bachmann was method acting. Capehart seemed to admire Bachmann’s ability to relentlessly stay on message, even if her message was not true. Matthews was most concerned though with Bachmann’s seemingly conditioned response, asking “is it mental or is it method?” Referencing The Manchurian Candidate, Matthews concluded that the “queen of diamonds was flashed because she repeated every word she rehearsed.”
