Chris Wallace Says Border Is a Big ‘Self-Inflicted Wound’ for Biden Administration: ‘Surprisingly Unprepared for It’

Fox News’ Chris Wallace asked Friday why the Biden administration can’t just say there’s a crisis at the border.

The semantic issue came up at Thursday’s briefing when Psaki referred to the “crisis on the border,” but then walked it back when asked by a reporter. It came on the heels of comments by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas saying he’s “not spending any time on the language” when directly asked if he would call the situation a crisis.

Wallace told Kristin Fisher, “It seems to be largely a self-inflicted wound and the administration seems to have been surprisingly unprepared for it.”

He noted how there are currently 14,000 unaccompanied minors in U.S. custody.

As for the “crisis” discussion, Wallace simply said, “Why not just call it a crisis? That’s what it is.”

“When you get keep getting into this argument saying ‘it’s a challenge, something we have to deal with,’ it sounds a little bit like Nancy Pelosi, like you’re ignoring reality. It obviously is a crisis,” he continued. “This is the biggest surge of minors and unaccompanied minors in over two years… Why you would refuse to call it what it is, it seems to me it just sounds like you’re trying to paper over a very serious reality.”
