Chuck Todd: How is Tillerson’s Case Different Than Hillary’s When Dealing With Hostile Governments?
During an interview today with Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) on MSNBC, MTP Daily host Chuck Todd wanted to know what the difference was for Republicans when it came to Rex Tillerson’s financial dealings with foreign governments and Hillary Clinton’s.
The ExxonMobil CEO is President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for Secretary of State. And while much of the concern about him serving in the position has revolved around his close relationship with Russia and Vladimir Putin, Todd asked Corker about something the GOP and Trump were critical of regarding former SoS Clinton — the Clinton Foundation soliciting money from government seen as bad actors.
“A lot of Republicans beat up Hillary Clinton over the Clinton Foundation and the fact that the Clinton Foundation had some dealings with some hostile governments,” Todd stated. “Why is Rex Tillerson’s case different?”
After a short pause, Corker noted that Tillerson was merely working for his company.
“In his case he was representing a company and shareholder interest,” The GOP lawmaker said. “You can have a global operation as was said earlier by someone else. Look, unfortunately a lot that exists in the world is controlled by people that in many cases we don’t like much. So that was his job.”
He further highlighted that by the time he gets to confirmation, he won’t have any interest Exxon and that overall it was a different scenario.
