CNN’s Paul Begala Complains Fury at Schumer Distracted Him From Attacking the ‘Douchebags’ at Musk’s DOGE

CNN’s Paul Begala attacked people working for Elon Musk and DOGE as “douchebags” Monday while simultaneously offering a scathing rebuke of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY).

The veteran Democratic strategist lamented that Schumer’s support of a Republican-led continuing resolution bill to keep the government running had taken the wind out of the sails of the party.

Schumer has been under fire since Thursday of last week after he announced he would help his Senate GOP colleagues advance the bill. The New York Democrat’s defenders – of which there are few – have said Schumer did not want his party to be blamed for a government shutdown.

Democrats, from party voters to Democrats in Congress, have shared their fury with the leader. On Monday’s The Lead, Begala joined the chorus during an interview with Jake Tapper.

“I’ve never seen the party this angry at its leader, Senator Schumer,” Begala said. “It’s incandescent. It’s hard for me to describe. They’re furious. And here’s why. He had something very valuable. He had voted to pass the continuing resolution that Republicans could not do without them. And he traded them away for nothing” He continued:

I want the government to stay open. Most Democrats do. The funding level is actually not all that bad. There was some terrible stuff they added to it. But when I came to them a month ago, seriously, this was strategic as well as tactical. Tactical was bad to cave without a compromise. Strategically, he should have come to his party a month ago and said, here are our principles.

Begala said Democrats could have forced the Republicans for concessions such as funding for schools but he had an issue he wanted more attention on.

“Actually, for me, it would be, a crackdown on the douchebags that are working for Mr. Musk in destroying our constitution,” he said.

Tapper replied, “Is that a legislative term?”

Begala replied, “I think it is, I think that’s how you pronounce it. Douche, D-O-G-E.”
