CNN’s Smerconish: Think About How Trump’s ‘Embarrassing’ Behavior Makes Us Look Abroad
CNN’s Michael Smerconish opened his show this morning by saying it’s becoming harder to combat the stereotype of the “ugly American” when traveling abroad, given the behavior of the U.S. President.
He said that when he’s abroad, “I try to do my small part to dispel the image––the false stereotype––of the ugly American.”
But, Smerconish added, “no amount of person-to-person encounters this travel season can offset the recent actions of our President.”
He brought up President Trump‘s tweets about Mika Brzezinski and CNN before saying, “President Trump’s behavior transcends our borders, and it’s often embarrassing.”
Smerconish said the President should consider the fact that when he goes after CNN, he’s going after a news source that is “viewed and respected worldwide, including by foreign leaders.”
